News from the Natural World: Elephanteaters, Crocpos & Hamlions – has human interbreeding of animals gone too far?

The Platypus has uncovered a series of disturbing reports from the human scientific community. We uncovered a number of sealed top-secret documents from a human science lab. The documents showed that humans were experimenting on a horrific new array of animal hybrids. So, we decided to send our top investigator, Harry Shrewdini, to secure video footage and photos from the lab. We couldn’t have prepared ourselves for what would happen next.

The photos and videos from the human science lab showed a bizarre and horrific number of animal hybrids or chimaeras. There was cage after cage, row upon row, and an entire warehouse of the bombastic creations. One image showed a giant Elephanteater, a cross between an Elephant and an Anteater. Another showed a weird Hippo like a beast with snapping jaws. Finally, the video turned to a shrieking creature with the head of a lion. It was like some mad animals’ nightmare world of contorted faces and maniacal noises. The Platypus and all animals were outraged and set out to confront the human scientists.

Has interbreeding gone too far?

The human scientist was surprised that we were so angry. He said that humans had been tinkering with animals in labs for decades. The Elephanteater was absolutely necessary to deal with large scale pest problems. In addition, the Crocpos were vital for swamp transportation and Hamlions were crucial for urban combat. Humans had been smashing animals together for centuries, how did animals think Pugs came about? They certainly weren’t about to stop now just because some uppity animal journalists had uncovered some hidden footage. “You should see what humans are doing with Pigs and Humans in Russia, now that’s a sight for sore eyes!”
