News from the Natural World: Humans finally admit that destroying the planet leads to economic gain.
For many years humans have tried to hide the reasons they are destroying the planet. They said it was inevitable, that they had no other choice. Many argued that it was necessary to improve standards of living and raise humans out of poverty. Those extra sofas, Netflix subscriptions and skiing holidays weren’t going to pay for themselves. Some, even crazier humans, said that humans had to develop in order to achieve the next stage of evolution. Integration and assimilation with AI. What did it matter if nature and the animal kingdom was destroyed in the process!?
Humans finally admit destroying nature makes money
A leading group of animal journalists was able to expose just how much money the humans had made by destroying nature and the planet. In 2019 human global GDP was estimated to be $86 trillion. The oil and gas drilling sector alone made up around 3.8% of that global economy. The global meat industry is worth over $2 trillion and JBS, the world’s largest meat company, makes over $50 billion in annual revenue. In addition, in 2017, the US alone produced approximately 100 billion lbs of meat, with production growing at a rate of 2-3% per year. Furthermore, the fast fashion industry produces ~1 billion garments annually. Profits are around 3 trillion dollars per year.
Humans had always tried to pretend that it was solely destroying nature for profit but that has all now changed. The first human to admit this was the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonara, he said “You know what? I’m just bloody fed up with having to come up with all these excuses. It would be so much easier and less time consuming if we humans finally admit that we’re just doing it for profit. There you go, I said it, the cat is out of the proverbial bag.” Now that humans finally admit that the destruction of nature leads to economic gain it is hoped that the rest of the natural world can finally, once and for all, be destroyed.
