News from the Natural World: Chinese Communist Party renames China and launches a colossal greenwashing campaign.
The Communist Party of China, commonly known as the Chinese Communist Party, is the founding and sole governing political party of the human nation known as the People’s Republic of China. The CCP leads eight other legally permitted subordinate minor parties together as the United Front. Xi Jinping is the human who has served as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and Chairman of the Central Military Commission since 2012, and President of the People’s Republic of China since 2013. The People’s Republic of China is the world’s most populous human country, with a population of more than 1.4 billion. Not a patch on the Ants but you’ve got to let humans have their big impressive numbers.
Last year China vowed that it would become carbon neutral by 2060. But we animals know what human promises are, big fat slimy lies. The animals know that this promise will amount to little if Xi’s signature foreign policy vision, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), continues exporting China’s environmental challenges globally. In addition, the policy has made developing countries’ debt unsustainable, mutual suspicion deeper, and the space of development more polluted. Beijing’s BRI is giving birth to power plants that will spew dirty coal for decades, railways and roads that cut through fragile ecosystems, and dams that threaten rivers and the communities around them.
Chinese Communist Party Renames Itself
This should have been a huge opportunity for human leaders of other countries to raise the environmental agenda. A giant stick to beat the proverbial dog with. A way to challenge the rise of China as the most dominant human force on the planet. But the rest of the more realist animals knew that it didn’t really matter which humans rose to dominance. They would likely do what all human empires did. Harvest profits from the natural world. Ravage resources from other less developed countries. Bring those resources back to their country to escalate wealth. Then slowly tidy up a small 1% of their own back yard whilst shouting at all their neighbours for having messy backyards despite the fact it was you that went over there and messed them up in the first place.
