Humans are really good at inventing religions. They’ve been doing it since the dawn of time. Pretty much every human civilisation has invented Gods. The Aztecs, Inca, Mayans, Greeks, Romans etc in fact you name a civilisation. They invented their very own gods. These humans always seem to forget that it seems a rather large coincidence that humans keep doing this and instead argue over who is right. After all, this is the most important thing to the human. They’d rather be ignorant idiots than wrong about whose God was the best.
But one group wanted to be right more than any other group. The dreaded Christians. The Christians not only wanted to be right but they would slaughter anyone who disagreed with them. Witches burnt at the stake and drowned in rivers. Holy wars and crusades waged in the deserts. Missionaries spreading bullshit and disease across the Americas, Africa and Australasia. They really knew they were right and they killed most people who disagreed. But the key part of Christianity revolved around building a toxic swamp of guilt that trapped its believers in an endless cycle of shame. Done something naughty? Tell the priest. Committed a crime, tell the priest. What would this priest do with it? Hold the secret over your head and use it to get away with molesting children. Simple.
