News from the Natural World: Rishi Sunak says the UK economy can survive without all the namby pampy green stuff like nature. With weeks to go before the CopOut26 climate summit, documents show the human PM Boris Johnson being warned about the risks of damage to the UK economy. Where is the risk coming from? From dirty god damn green investment. This was all revealed after a treasury leak highlighted the rift between Johnson and Sunak over the costs of a zero-carbon economy. As Johnson looks to position the UK as the leader of global efforts to fight climate change and cut down greenhouse gas emissions as host of the Glasgow CopOut26 meeting. The documents show the Treasury is warning of serious economic damage to the UK economy and future tax rises if the UK overspends on, or misdirects, green investment.

Rishi Sunak Says the UK Economy Can Survive

Whitehall sources said there was a belief that Sunak was keen to position himself as something of a climate-change sceptic in order to boost his popularity with Tory party members and draw comparisons with Johnson’s green enthusiasms. “Rishi clearly sees an interest in showing he is not really down with this green stuff.” We managed to secure an interview with Rishi Sunak to ask him why he thought the UK economy could survive without the natural world; “I am not a climate change denier but isn’t this all getting a bit expensive to fix, isn’t it. Couldn’t we just ride it out and hope for the best? I’m sure we will be alright. And by we, I mean rich people. Look I’m telling you the rich will be fine. The economy can work without the natural world. It really can, I’ve seen the numbers and they look great. So what we might lose a few 100 million poor people. Everyone I know is loaded so it won’t really affect me. And if the poor die out then it will mean even more torie voters by the percentage of the population. It’s perfect really.”
