News from the Natural World: What happens when you kill a human? Long has this question been on the lips, beaks and snouts of many an animal, we dive in to uncover the truth.
Death in the animal kingdom is a simple premise. All animals are aware that living beings are merely timeless vessels for atoms passing through the flow of time. Animals know that life is but a fleeting cosmic accident, a brief glimpse of consciousness amongst the vast sea of space and time. Similarly, death is just the ceasing of consciousness and animals are no more afraid of death than they are of life. But animals know that humans are different. There are many things that set humans apart.
What Happens When You Kill a Human?
Humans are different for many reasons. They are set apart by their rapacious greed, their incredible stupidity and their obsession with penis size (animals don’t even bother here as the Right Whale just obliterates all opposition). Humans are also uniquely obsessed with war and destruction and have devised many incredible ways to obliterate each other. Most animals prefer the good old fashioned method of death by eating. But there is one area where animals really think humans are different, and that is death.
Humans really seem to approach death differently than other animals. They are obsessed with it. They write about it, sing about it, make films about it and host elaborate festivals and funerals around it. They lament when it happens, obsess about it when it hasn’t happened yet and everything in between. Humans get especially angry when they succumb to death by animals. Whether a Shark, Bear, Tiger or Lion humans get very prickly when they succumb to death by being eaten. This is confusing to animals as other animals eat each other all the time. It’s just a part of life. But humans get really sensitive about it and they retaliate in horrific ways. But we animals have wondered for a long time, why is it so different for humans? Why is death so special for them?
We animals have long suspected that something strange or unique must happen when you kill a human. Maybe they explode, maybe they turn into a Unicorn, who knows? We decided to ask some humans to find out what happens when you kill a human.
You Cause Chronic Denial
When non-animal things like smoking, drugs, alcohol, violence, war or overeating kill humans they cause colossal amounts of denial. Humans say things like ‘he lost his battle’ rather than he ‘smoked too much’. In addition, they say things like ‘she was really jolly and full of life’ rather than ‘she ate too much and was full of biscuits’. Furthermore, they say ‘he died defending his country’ rather than ‘he died protecting the elite’s interests’. So it seems that often when you kill a human you cause chronic denial.
